Submissions are CLOSED

Submissions for Welter are now closed. While we don't have final counts of everything yet, we have at least 58 individuals who submitted work to us. A little more than half of the submissions are from here at the University of Baltimore. The majority of submissions are poems, and most submitters sent multiple pieces for review.

The next step is for the editorial staff to read, inspect, and discuss each one. About 20 people will read each individual work and discuss it with a group of others. After review, recommendations will be passed on to the senior editorial board who will make final decisions. We should have answers in a few weeks, and promise to send everyone who submitted a letter saying whether the work was submitted or not.

Keep checking back here for updates on how the process is going- and for sneak peeks at the design and other considerations of putting together the journal!

Editorial Meeting

Last night we had another Welter editorial meeting. Top of the agenda was setting up a design subgroup who will be responsible for creating the layout and other design decisions for the Journal. These seven creative men and women will be coming up with some samples for the staff to look at to narrow the process down in the next few weeks.

We also discussed budgetary concerns, and were able to come up with a higher budget than originally expected. This means that we'll be able to come up with a higher quality product than in some previous years, and we won't have to sacrifice as many elements as we expected after hearing quotes from a printer last week.

Finally, the editorial process has begun, and we've began to read through the submissions! This puts us on track for our deadlines to make sure we've given each piece ample consideration before deciding.

Remember, the deadline is this Friday, so get those submissions in!
